Pediatrics at Newton-Wellesley is dedicated to providing the best
in preventive and acute care for infants, children and adolescents.
As pediatric professionals, we focus on providing ongoing comprehensive
care and are available to assist you in the care of your child
whenever the need arises. A long-term personal relationship between
family and pediatric professional is encouraged to foster confidence
in the ability to assess illness and promote wellness within the
child.
Prenatal Consultations
If you are expecting a baby, you probably have
a lot of questions. We’re here to help. Expectant parents are invited to schedule
a prenatal consultation with one of our pediatricians. This is
your opportunity to speak one-to-one with your baby’s future
pediatrician and tour our office. To schedule a consultation,
please call our practice manager at (617) 969-8989.
Comprehensive and Preventive Health Care
Starting at Birth
Well-child examinations are important in
early detection of problems having to do with your
child's health and development. Each child sees
his or her pediatrician or nurse practitioner for well visits.
These visits provide time to review your child’s nutritional
needs, growth and development, sleep habits, school progress and
any other concerns. A complete physical examination is performed,
immunizations given, and developmental changes discussed. Preschool
and school-age children will have a hearing test, vision exam and language
assessment. This is a good time to ask questions you may have regarding
your child's health, growth and development.
Hospital Care
We see your newborn daily at Newton-Wellesley
Hospital. For deliveries at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center,
Brigham & Women’s
and the Massachusetts General Hospital, we have one of our colleagues
coordinate the care of your baby during your hospital stay. If
your older child's medical condition requires admission, we will
manage your child's care at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. More complicated
medical admissions will be managed at Children's Hospital or
other Harvard Medical institutions.
Newborn Care
If a mother is having breastfeeding problems, nothing is more helpful
than having skilled, one-on-one assistance from a lactation consultant.
Sherry Maloney, C.P.N.P., I.B.C.L.C. is certified by the International Board of
Lactation Consultant Examiners. She is available for telephone
support, office visits for private breastfeeding consults, and
maternal nutrition recommendations.
In-Office Laboratory
Many of the routine laboratory tests are performed in our office.
Insurance
We will bill most insurance carriers for you if proper information is provided to us. Co-payments and deductibles are due at the time of service. Any care not paid for by your existing insurance plan will require payment in full upon notice of insurance claim denial. All MassHealth patients must be enrolled in the PCC (Primary Care Clinician Plan). A valid MassHealth card must be presented at each visit to verify eligibility.
Referral Network
If we determine that your child needs to see a subspecialist, we will
refer you to the appropriate physician. In many cases a written clearance from
our office is required in advance. Though some insurance carriers
do not require a referral, it will be your responsibility to
understand your plan requirements.
